Poor sanitation and deteriorating building conditions are pushing dozens of veterans out of their homes due to safety concerns. Veteran's families learned of those concerns after being told State officials were closing the Little Rock Veterans home.
Director Cissy Rucker admits there was a lack of maintenance oversight. Our cameras weren't allowed inside the meeting as Rucker explained just how bad of a shape the roof is in.
The plumbing inside also needs to be replaced, ut it would be too expensive to repair the home. Some relatives called the forced move, "unacceptable" and a "sorry offer" for our veterans.
"I hate it because I'm close to the other residents living here and it's going to be adjustment for the change."
There is no deadline to close the center. The director says it will remain open until the last veteran is placed.
