According to officials from the state highway department, the route is expected to be decided by the fall.
Environmental scientist Terry Tucker with the highway department said that according to their timeline, the department could have a route decided an estimated three months after the public hearing tonight.
Randy Ort, spokesperson for the highway department, said the timeline is based on the approval of the federal highway department.
"A lot of it has to do with how quick a turnaround we get from the federal department," Ort said.
The state highway department will decide a preferred route following the closing of a public comment on July 25 at 4:30 p.m. The state's decision on a preferred route will be based on the results of the environmental studies and the comments submitted at the public hearing tonight and during comment period.
People who want to submit public comment to the highway department can send it to: Arkansas State Highway and Transportation, Department Environmental Division, P.O. Box 226, Little Rock, 72201. Comments can also be e-mailed to environmentalpimeetings@ahtd.ar.gov.
