Harding Students Serve Others

    Some college students in Searcy spent the day being true servants to their community.
    The "Bisons for Christ" project sent about a thousand Harding University students to dozens of places in White County.
    They read to children, rehabilitated local facilities and even built a home for a much loved pet in honor of a special Harding employee.
    Lorene Smith, better known to Harding students as "Miss Polly" has worked in the university cafeteria for close to 41 years.         But after losing her home to a fire and having her husband pass away shortly thereafter, Harding students decided to build a pen and dog house for Miss Polly’s black lab, Sheba.
    The students involved today say the event was designed to allow them to serve both God and their community.
    “If we can rake, we can rake, if we can read, we're reading, I mean whatever you're talents are go out and do it for God," said Melissa Fabry, a Harding Freshman.
    Another group of students from Harding spent the day refurbishing visitation rooms at the Department of Human Services in White County.
    Total enrollment at Harding is about 6 thousand students.
