An Arkansas City man has been arrested after a shootout with deputies from the Desha County Sheriff's Office (DCSO).

The Arkansas State Police (ASP) says it happened shortly after six o'clock this morning when the DCSO received a call of a suspicious vehicle and occupant at the Back Gate community near State Highway 1 and U.S. Highway 165.

According to the ASP, Sheriff Jim Snyder encountered the vehicle along Highway 1. Following a short pursuit, the sheriff tried to take the driver into custody, and there was an exchange of gunfire.

The driver, identified as Brandon Langley (age unknown), was wounded and ran into a nearby wooded area where he was later caught by local authorities.

Special Agents of the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division have been requested to investigate the officer-involved shooting incident.

An investigative file will be prepared by the State Police and presented to the prosecuting attorney for consideration.
