A 16-year-old girl has been cited by the Searcy Police Department (SPD) for starting a fire that claimed a barn and approximately five acres of land Tuesday afternoon.

The barn, belonging to Searcy farmer John McKnight, was a total loss.

The Searcy Fire Department (SFD) and Searcy police responded to the fire around 1:50 p.m. near the intersection of Booth and Queensway. According to Major Tim Webb of the SPD, the girl was in the barn with at least two other juveniles when she lit a fire in the barn to provide light.
