Update: Magnolia Voters Approve Sales Tax Increase to Help Police, Fire

9:30 p.m. Update:
Magnolia residents have approved a one-fourth cent increase in their sales tax by a 616-276 vote.
This tax increase will only be applied to stores in the city of Magnolia and not the entire county.
It's not known at this time when the tax increase will go into effect.
Original Story:The polls are open in Magnolia as voters decide whether or not to raise the city's sales tax by one-quarter of a cent.
The revenue gained by the sales tax increase is expected to generate $500,000 annually for the city.
The additional revenue is expected to go towards city operations, the police and fire departments.
Wards 1 and 2 vote at the American Legion Building on Legion Drive while Wards 3 and 4 vote at the Columbia County Library on North Jackson Street.
The polls close tonight at 7:30 p.m.
