It's launched the website NLRFit2Live.org (click here) to help its citizens make healthy nutrition and fitness choices.
More than one in three children in North Little Rock are overweight or obese. According to the U.S. Surgeon General, if this epidemic is not reversed, we may be raising the first generation of Americans that will live shorter and sicker lives than their parents.
The mission of the Fit 2 Live initiative is to:
- Create an environment that empowers the community to recognize and adopt healthy life choices
- Collect evidence-based data
- Build partnerships to identify and share resources
- Develop and reinforce policy initiatives that support these goals
- Promote and implement innovative programs and practices
"We have created a lot of policies, programs, and other resources to support anyone - from children to adults - who wants to become healthier," said Bernadette Gunn Rhodes, Fit 2 Live Coordinator. "From community gardens, employee wellness and school wellness to joint use agreements and our built environment, we are working to make it easy for citizens to access fruits, vegetables and other whole foods as well as find a way to get active."
NLRFit2Live.org features ideas to "take charge" of your health, health quizzes and calculators, as well as a log-in feature that allows users to track their measurements over time - such as BMI and waist-to-height ratio.
While Fit 2 Live is a North Little Rock-based initiative, anyone can utilize the tools online to learn how to be healthier.
