Deputies: Fire Started by Man Shooting Gas Can

Updated: June 25, 2012
Pulaski County deputies tell KARK they arrested an 18 year old man for allegedly starting a grass fire after he shot a gas can.

The fire happened Sunday evening at Wye Mountain near Roland in Pulaski County.

Sheriff department spokesman Lt. Chris Ameling says the man wanted to impress his friends by shooting a gas can. He allegedly hit the can, causing it to explode and catch the surrounding grass on fire.

Ameling says the man then tried to extinguish the fire by spinning dirt onto the fire with a friends Jeep. That allegedly didn't work and actually caught the Jeep on fire.

The still unidentified man is being charged with violating the Pulaski County burn ban.

He is expected to face a judge in early August.
