The rate is down to 7.5 percent, which is the lowest the rate has been since November 2009, when it reached 7.3 percent.
The county rate is higher than the state rate for April, which was 7.2 percent, but lower than the national rate of 8.1 percent.
Searcy Chamber of Commerce President Buck Layne credited the decrease to local companies such as Electrocraft creating new positions. The Searcy company added 35 workers in the past several months, and plans to add 30 more by the end of the year.
"I think it's a positive sign," Layne said. "Some of our businesses are doing better than others and are now able to hire additional employees."
