Sign Up For A Free Head And Neck Cancer Screening

 The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is offering free head and neck cancer screenings from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. April 20 on the sixth floor of the Arkansas Cancer Research Center (ACRC). Screenings will be conducted by the UAMS Department of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery.

Appointments will be taken from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. April 9-19. To make an appointment, call (501) 686-5011. Parking is available for a small fee in the Outpatient Center parking deck at Cedar Street and Capitol Avenue.

It is estimated that 40,000 Americans will develop oral, head and neck cancer this year. Those at risk include people who smoke, chew tobacco or consume alcohol, as well as those who have previously had cancer in the area.

Signs and symptoms of oral, head and neck cancer include sores in the mouth that do not go away, a growth or swelling in the neck, persistent sore throat, trouble swallowing or voice changes.
