Pulaski County Sheriff deputies increased the number of boats patrolling the Arkansas River this weekend.

It's a part of "Operation: Dry Water," a nationwide push to deter and detect drunk driving on the water. Law enforcement across the country participated in this three day initiative.

Lt. Tim Hibbs said, "Drinking just a small amount of alcohol with the sun, the wind, and even vibrations from the boat can enhance the effects of alcohol. What we're trying to do is prevent boating accidents. "

At last check, according to the Game and Fish Commission there have been 34 boating accidents on lakes and rivers in Arkansas this year, resulting in six deaths.
