Race to Remember 5K Run/Walk Saturday in West Little Rock
By: KARK 4 News
Updated: June 22, 2012
It begins at 6PM at Two Rivers Park*.
Proceeds from the event, which is 5K certified and anticipated to have nearly 1,000 participants, will go to support the work of local non-profit, Mamie's Poppy Plates.
Mamie's Poppy Plates provides keepsake plates to area families who have experienced infant loss.
The group's founder, Sarah Bussey Adams, formed the organization in 2010 after the loss of her own child, Mamie. With the help of her sister, Britney Bussey Spees, the two have seen Mamie's Poppy Plates grow from providing plates to a handful of families in late 2010 to currently having a presence in nearly every major hospital in Arkansas.
They one day hope to offer these heartfelt mementos to families across the nation.
At the start of the race, families will be releasing balloons memorializing infants and young children who have passed away.
