The sheriff of Clay County confirms that a body found Saturday has been identified as missing Amtrak passenger Andrew Haukereid, Jr.
While the exact cause of the man's death is not yet known, the sheriff says injuries to the body are consistent with falling off a train.
Original story (June 17):
A body found in Clay County appears to be a father missing since May 19th.
Seventy
nine-year-old Andrew Haukereid Jr. boarded a train in Texas bound for
Chicago but never made it. A Silver Alert was soon after issued for
him.
Sunday, Amtrak authorities told KARK a body found in Clay County Saturday generally matches Haukereid's description.
They
are leaving it up to Clay County Sheriff's Deputies though to be sure. No word
on how the person died in the case.
The Clay County Sheriff did not return a call for more information Sunday.
We'll follow it and bring more details as we have them.
