Lloyd Not Running, Endorses Steele in NLR Mayor's Race

A candidate in the North Little Rock mayor's race is picking up an endorsement.

North Little Rock business owner Walter "Bubba" Lloyd Jr. announced today that he will not make a second run for mayor of North Little Rock.

Lloyd had considered running for mayor this year but said he has instead decided to endorse state Rep. Tracy Steele (photo below) in Steele's race for mayor.

"I love this city and want to see the mess at City Hall cleaned up, which is why I seriously considered running again," Lloyd said.

Steele served in the House from 1999-2003. He served in the Senate from 2003-2011 before returning to the House last year.

"I've come to the decision that I can better serve the city of North Little Rock by working to help Tracy get elected rather than running again," Lloyd said. "Tracy supports many of the goals that I advocated in my last race. It's time for city government to get back to the basics of providing services for its citizens rather than wasting our tax dollars on unneeded toys like rusty submarines.

"The current administration talks about things like a lodge at Burns Park in competition against the private sector rather than focusing on beefing up police and fire protection."

Lloyd said that electing Joe Smith as mayor would result in "more of the same."

"Rather than resurfacing our streets, we would be paying to move an old tugboat up here if Joe is elected," Lloyd said. "He would be a Pat Hays puppet. We don't need more of the same. We need a focus on basic city services, and I believe Tracy is dedicated to again making this a city that protects its citizens and provides those basic services. That's why I'm supporting Tracy and will be urging everyone I know in North Little Rock to do the same."
