By: KARK 4 News
Updated: June 8, 2012
The Stand Up for Religious Freedom Rally got underway at noon in front of the State Capitol.

A large crowd was on hand for the opening remarks at the gathering.

Similar rallies were scheduled to take place at the same time in cities nationwide.

The purpose of the events is to take a stand for religious freedom and oppose government policies that harm it and set
dangerous precedents, such as the controversial HHS mandate on religious institutions.

Scheduled to speak in Little Rock are:
  • State Senator Missy Irvin of Mountain Home (Master of Ceremonies)
  • Most Rev. Anthony Taylor, Bishop, Catholic Diocese of Little Rock
  • Mark Evans, Senior Pastor, The Church at Rock Creek
  • Beth Anne Rankin, CEO, Beth Anne Productions, Inc.
  • Jerry Cox, President, Family Council
This rally is being organized by faith, political, and community leaders in Arkansas with assistance from Family Council.

Comments

The American Family Association, to which Jerry Cox and the Arkansas Family Association belong, has been classified as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. Look at the roster of speakers. These people are not petitioning the government on the behalf of individual citizens. They are petititioning on behalf of religious institutions to impose their beliefs onto everybody else via the arena of government policy. They want to tell you through force of law how to live your life. They can only do so if you let them. Wake up, people!
