Escapes Nothing New at Miller County Jail

"They were able to break the bars out and use the bars to break the glass out," explained Warden Brazel.

Around 4 a.m. Monday, the two weren't found inside their cell during a routine security check, but what was found was their escape weapon.

"They did have a small portion of a hack saw that was found in the cell," explained Brazel.

It's not the first time a hack saw was used to escape a miller county jail cell. In 2008, a jailor was arrested for providing an inmate with a hack saw to escape.

Former Miller county sheriff Linda Rambo back in 2008: "Go back and look at your books and see from '03,'04,'05 and '06 that there was constantly something being repaired so it's nothing new."

Escapes aren't new either. In 1999, three inmates escaped. One did so each year in 2002, 2003 and 2005. Three years later in 2008, 13 inmates busted out. One more in 2009. Then two more on Monday.

"We recognize that this facilty has had a lot of negative attention over the past year, but it's not my purpose or my place to focus on the past administration our goal is to move forward." current Miller County Sheriff Ron Stovall said in 2009. The word continue to echo after Monday morning's events as Hooper and Cortez remain on the run.

"It will take some time, but we will get to the bottom of it," concluded Brazel.
