White County Judge Off Lottery Ticket Case

One day after ordering a new trial over a disputed million-dollar lottery ticket, a White County judge is taking himself off the case.
Circuit Judge Thomas Hughes filed court papers today recuses him from the new trial, for which a date has not yet been set.
The reason given is that his impartiality could be called into question if he stays on the case.
Sharon Jones of Beebe found the million-dollar ticket in the trash at a gas station in July of 2011.
Judge Hughes had previously awarded the ticket to another woman, Sharon Duncan, who said she'd bought the ticket but then threw it away when after scanning it and being told it was not a winner.
