UPDATE: District 1 Democratic Race Headed for Runoff

By: KARK 4 News
Updated: May 23, 2012
As of 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, it appears the Democratic race for the District 1 congressional seat is headed for a runoff.

Prosecutor Scott Ellington is the clear frontrunner.  With 99-percent of the vote in, Ellington has 49.48 percent of the vote.  That means he doesn't have the 50-percent he needs to win outright.

Around 10 p.m. Tuesday, Ellington had the numbers here needed.  However, he slipped to below 50-percent early Wednesday as the overnight numbers rolled in.

Clark Hall had 39-percent of the vote early Wednesday.  He will face Ellington in the runoff.

A third candidate, Gary Latanich, earned 12-percent of the vote. KARK 4 spoke to Latanich Wednesday morning. He told us that he will NOT endorse Hall or Ellington in the runoff, saying neither of them is "willing to address the pressing economic concerns" he believes are so important.

However, Latanich says he will back the winner in November.
