Hot cars taking off for a "bandit run across the south" gathering in Texarkana.

Modeled after the classic smokey and the bandit nearly two-hundred Pontiac Trans AM's lined up in downtown Texarkana this morning for the annual bandit run.

The drivers are making a five-state journey to Atlanta, Georgia recreating the route from the 1977 film smokey and the bandit.

Several road-trippers traveled several hours for the event coming from states like minnesota, nebraska, and Tennessee.

"I've never been in a big ride like this before, and we fixed 'em up and came down," says William Stock who drove from Laporte, Minnesota.

Drivers are expected to pull into Atlanta by Friday.

The event is estimated to have large economic impact for Texarkana, generating anywhere between seventy-five to one-hundred thousand dollars in local spending.
