A 36-year veteran of the U.S. Senate has been voted out and North Carolina has banned same-sex marriage.
Republican Senator Dick Lugar of Indiana was defeated Tuesday in that state's primary.

Voters in North Carolina approved a constitutional amendment defining marriage between a man and a woman. They become the 30th state to ban same-sex marriage.
