Update: Students React to Gun Violence Near UALR Campus

Update 11:30 pm

UALR students are pushing for more security Tuesday after students were allegedly approached by a gunman, and one beaten with a weapon.

The crime happened just a few blocks away from campus near the intersection of Lucie Avenue and Fair Park Blvd.

Many students living in the surrounding areas say they'd hoped the school would've boosted security around campus after the disappearance of UALR student Patricia Guardado who went missing from a nearby parking lot.

There have been police cars patrolling the area all afternoon. KARK spoke to students who live and park on the outskirts of campus, despite signs warning them they're doing so at their own risk.

Student Seth Justice said, "It's really unnerving just to know since I live so close, I walk to the school and knowing anything that can happen, especially with everything going on around, it's scary seeing all that."

They've been really expanding, if they're going to expand like that and they're charging more for tuition they need to bump up security," said student Nick Grunewald.

Original Story

A man was hurt after a run-in with a gunman near the University of Arkansas at Little Rock campus Tuesday afternoon.

The incident occurred near Anna and Lucie streets around 3 p.m.

Students say they were approached by someone in a hooded sweatshirt who pulled a gun on them. At some point, the suspect is believed to have fired shots. No one was hit.

One of the victims tripped while running from the scene. Police think the suspect hit him with the gun.

Police haven't made any arrests.
