Conway police confirm the bear in a tree on Foster Drive is down safely. See photos below.
Nicknamed "Foster" after the street he was found on, he was shot twice with darts. After falling asleep, the fire department hosed him down until he fell into one of two bounce houses provided by a local hardware and party rental business.
Foster is expected to be okay and is now in the care of Arkansas Game & Fish.
Monday Evening Update:
Conway police tell KARK 4 News officers discovered the bear in a tree on Foster Drive.
As of 8:30 p.m. Monday, law enforcement was on the scene. Officers tell KARK 4's Jessica Dean the bear is too high in a tree to shoot with a dart gun. They fear the bear would fall too far.
Officers are currently working out a game plan with Arkansas Game and Fish.
Foster Drive is right around the corner from the UCA campus.
Original Story:
The UCA Bears are not the only bears in Conway anymore.
Conway Police and Arkansas Game & Fish Commission (AGFC) officials say a young black bear has been spotted in the Country Club Road area.
AGFC wildlife biologists are tracking it to be sure the bear is staying away from neighborhoods.
Conway Police say one of its officers spotted the bear near Julia Lee Moore Elementary school early today and got a picture of it in a tree.
After word got around town about the bear, a Twitter account sprang up for it (@WestConwayBear).
The account's profile says the bear likes parks and the locally-made Stoby's cheese dip.
