Jurors ruled against Janssen Pharmaceuticals Inc. Tuesday afternoon. Arkansas was asking for at least $1.2 billion in fines for the 250,000 prescriptions issued under its Medicaid program.
McDaniel issued a statement saying this is an example of how the state is fighting fraud and deceptive practices.
"Today, an Arkansas jury confirmed that Johnson & Johnson and Janssen Pharmaceuticals lied to patients and doctors because they cared more about profits than people. I am grateful for the jury's verdict and its decision to hold the defendants accountable for their actions."
Throughout the trial, the state argued Janssen Pharmaceuticals download the risks associated with its drug.
