State education director Ken James urged a
special legislative committee today to adopt recommendations for
changes within the agency.
James outlined 19 priorities that he based on a management
analysis by James Smith of Management Analysis and Planning
Incorporated. Most of them addressed recruiting and retaining
qualified department employees with competitive salaries.
James says the departments 400 employees will be critical to
implementing new school district accountability standards. They
will also play a key role in helping newly consolidated districts
