A grant of $812,000 will help
the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences track the body-fat
measurements of every school-age child in the state.
The research, funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, will
be used to help Arkansas government officials implement a new state
law aimed at reducing childhood obesity.
The 2003 legislation set a national precedent by requiring
schools to measure students body-mass index every year and report
results to parents.
