Consolidation Hearings Start Next Week

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Five of the Arkansas school districts marked for mergers under a new law could learn their fate as early as next week as the state begins a series of consolidation hearings. Officials from the Alread, Arkansas City, Delta Special, Paron and Scotland districts are scheduled to go before the state Board of Education on Monday to present their plans to annex into larger neighbors. The changes are mandated under a new law requiring administrative consolidation of districts with fewer than 350 students. Interim state Education Director Tom Courtway said he also would present to the board Monday a list of the times and dates for dozens more hearings. The process is forecast to stretch close to the June first deadline for finalizing consolidation.
