Judge Rules Against Union In Dispute

A judge rejected a bid by bus drivers for
the Pulaski County school district who sought to force the district
to comply with a disputed contract.
Circuit Judge Barry Sims ruled yesterday that the Pulaski
Association of Support Staff had not reached a final contract with
the district when bus drivers went on strike in January.
The union had sought an injunction to force the district to
comply with a contract the school board tentatively ratified in
August. Several issues were pending further negotiation.
But Sims refused to grant the injunction, saying that the
agreement was never final.
The drivers stopped work January 26th over wage issues. The
school board granted the pay concessions but, on a four-to-three
vote, ended recognition of the union.
