State numbers show that an increasing number of Arkansas high school dropouts are choosing to obtain their diplomas through alternate programs. The Department of Workforce Education said yesterday that the state saw a 20 percent increase in Arkansans earning their General Educational Development credential last year. A GED is an equivalent of a high school diploma. According to the state information, six thousand 325 of seven thousand 579 students tested completed the program to earn their diploma. The program is available free to any Arkansas high school drop out. The tests are also available in Spanish or French.
