New Study About Arkansas' Preschools

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
A national study says that Arkansas preschool programs are suffering just as much as its grammar and high schools. Arkansas standards for operating preschool programs are among the countrys best, but its funding and participation levels are low. The study said that only six percent of the states three and four year olds are in public preschool. Thats only about half of the national average. The state also puts 700 dollars less per student into the program than the national average. But while putting more money into all public education earlier this month, legislators also added 40 million dollars to the preschool program. Arkansas DHS early childhood education director Janie Huddleston said the new funding will greatly improve the states funding level.
