School officials in Conway say that theyll need
at least a four mill tax increase to raise 35 million dollars
for campus improvements.
They say necessary improvements include renovations at the east
and west high schools and a new school for fifth and sixth graders.
Officials said the additions would ease overcrowding and solve
growth needs for the next eight to ten years.
School board president Terry Fiddler said that in some Conway
schools students are quote -- "on top of each other."
Right now Conway has a 32-point-two mill rate. With the four
extra mills, a homeowner with a $100,000 property would
pay $80 more per year.
The school board said that it would revisit the topic again in
March, after estimates come through.
