Slowly, but surely folks on either side of the consolidation issue seem to be moving to the other side. Yesterday, Senator Brenda Gullett, staunch former supporter of S-B 28, offered amendments on the Senate floor to an anti-consolidation bill. Shes been working with rural educators who support house bill 1021, known as the Miller-Weaver plan. She says 28 is dead and its time to start working on something that could have life. Her work behind the scenes produced a revelation today. She said several rural superintendents are embracing 250 as the base district-size for administrative consolidation. Late this afternoon, Rural Education Association president Jimmy Cunningham confirmed that support by phone. Despite that leap, hes still very against house bill 1109 which pushes administrative conoslidation for districts of 350 or less.
