Jacksonville residents fighting for a new
school district continue their legal battle. Now they want a
federal appeals court to step in.
US District Judge William Wilson has rejected a request by some Jacksonville residents to stay his order to halt an election on creating a new school district.
Wilson says the move would interfere with long-running
desegregation efforts in Pulaski County, North Little Rock and
Little Rock school districts.
Wilsons order stopped the September 16th election. Yesterday,
the group filed a notice of appeal with the Eighth Circuit Court of
Appeals. State legislator Will Bond of Jacksonville says the group
will exhaust all efforts in hope of still holding an election.
