Van Gogh Painting Seen from Space?

Some new imagery from NASA is being compared to one of the masters of the art world.

A time-lapse of ocean currents by the Scientific Visualization Studio at the Goddard Space Flight Center looks quite like one of Vincent Van Gogh's most famous works.

Compare his "Starry Night" to the image below yourself:



The animation is called Perpetual Ocean. It visualizes the ocean's surface currents over a 30-month period between June 2005 and December 2007.

The animation was created using NASA and JPL's computational model of the global oceans and sea-ice.
