Road Work at West Mountain in Hot Springs National Park Starts Monday

By: KARK 4 News
Updated: March 22, 2012
A popular scenic lookout in Hot Springs National Park is getting some road improvements starting Monday.

Drivers heading up West Mountain should expect delays when crews begin preliminary work on the entire length of Summit Road from Whittington to Prospect Avenues.

Crews under contract with the Federal Highways Administration will start preparing the roads and at times will require temporary lane closures as they set up for the project.

The construction work is scheduled to begin in April, weather permitting.

The project on Summit and West Mountain Roads includes milling, repaving, installing new guardrails and traffic signs.

The roads may be closed during some phases of the work, which is expected to be finished by the end of June.
