Panera will open at least two more pay-what-you-want cafes by the end of the year as part of its effort to help feed the hungry.
The concept is simple, Panera lists a suggested price for food but customers pay what they want, or really what they can.
Panera already has such cafes in suburban St. Louis, Portland, Oregon, and Dearborn, Michigan.
A spokesperson for Panera says the cafes usually break even, with up to 20% of customers paying more than the recommended amount and 20% paying less or nothing.
