Brewer Receives National Honor

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Arkansas junior Ronnie Brewer has been named first-team All-District VII by the United States Basketball Writers Association. Brewer leads the SEC in scoring (18.6) and steals (2.48), and he is eighth in free throw percentage (.739). Brewer, who is a finalist for the John R. Wooden Award, which goes to the top collegiate player in the nation, has led the team in scoring 20 times, in rebounding nine times and in assists eight times. He had 24 points in the win over No. 10 Florida. In the win over Alabama, his three-point play with 20 seconds left was the difference. He had nine points, five rebounds and nine assists in the win at No. 10 Tennessee. Brewer is 17th on UAs all-time scoring list (1,366), eighth on the career steals chart (205) and 12th on the free throws list (312). This is the second honor for Brewer this year after earlier being named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District 9 team. The other members of the USBWA team are P.J. Tucker and LaMarcus Aldridge of Texas, Morris Almond of Rice, Glen Davis and Darrel Mitchell of LSU, Alan Daniels of Lamar, Jarrius Jackson of Texas Tech, Acie Law of Texas A&M and Paul Millsap of Louisiana Tech. Tucker is the player of the year and LSUs John Brady the coach of the year.
