McCurdy SEC Golfer of The Week

FAYETTEVILLE -- University of Arkansas senior Amanda McCurdy earned Southeastern Conference Golfer of the Week honors it was announced today. McCurdy, an El Dorado, Ark., native, notched her second win of the season and the fourth of her career with a 214 (72-68-74) at the 2006 Lady Puerto Rico Invitational last weekend. "Amanda is a special talent," said Arkansas head coach Kelley Hester. "She`s performed very consistently in her three and a half seasons here and it`s fun to see her win. It`s her second win of the season and both were pretty big wins. Golf is not a game where you always reap the benefits for your hard work so its fun to see her do that. She`s got some confidence as we build toward the end of the season." McCurdy posted a second round 68 in Puerto Rico tying her lowest collegiate round. Her 214 is one stroke off her collegiate best as well. This season, McCurdy has had three top 10 finishes and was a perfect 4-0 at the Hooters Match Play Championship. Her numbers have led Arkansas to the program`s highest ranking in school history peaking at the No. 2 spot in the early fall. Arkansas currently ranks ninth in the most recent Golfweek poll. McCurdy is ranked 18th as an individual with a 406-65-7 record against the field this year. She leads the Lady Razorbacks with a 73.17 stroke average with 18 rounds played and, if the season concluded today, her stroke average would be a career best. She currently ranks sixth in the SEC. McCurdy has ranked among the team leaders from her freshman season in 2002-03. She began the year ranked tied for second for the lowest individual round (68), a mark she tied in Puerto Rico. She was also tied for second for lowest three-round total, a 216 she posted twice. McCurdy moves up to the top spot after posting a 213 in a win at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Classic this fall. She also holds the record for lowest four-round total and is second for career stroke average. The Lady Razorbacks return to the links March 10-12, at the Texas A&M "Mo" Morial hosted by the Aggies in College Station, Texas. Arkansas next travels to the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic March 24-26, prior to the Southeastern Conference Championship April 14-16, hosted by Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn.
