FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.- Ronnie Brewer made a 3-pointer with 54 seconds to play in overtime and batted away a pass as Florida tried to tie it in the closing seconds, helping Arkansas to an 85-81 victory over the 10th-ranked Gators on Saturday. Brewer scored 24 points and Jonathon Modica scored 22 for Arkansas (17-8, 6-6 Southeastern Conference). Taurean Green scored 20 points for the Gators, who are 5-4 since starting the second 17-0. Florida (22-4, 8-4 Southeastern Conference) went up 77-75 in the extra period on baskets by Al Horford and Corey Brewer. But Modica, who scored Arkansas` first basket in OT, contributed a free throw and Eric Ferguson scored over Lee Humphrey for a brief 78-77 lead with 2:15 to play. Florida retook the lead 79-78 on a putback by Corey Brewer, who had 11 points. Horford added 10 points and 11 rebounds. Arkansas took control when Ronnie Brewer was fouled by Joakim Noah, who fouled out with 16 points, costing Florida a clutch shooter. Brewer converted both free throws for 80-79. After a Florida miss, Brewer made his 3 for an 83-79 lead. Humphrey missed on the other end and Modica angered his coaches when he went straight for the shot instead of working the clock down to protect the lead. Horford scored to make it 83-81 with 30.1 seconds to play. Brewer made a free throw to make it 84-81 with 19.7 seconds left and then knocked away a pass as the Gators moved the ball around the perimeter, trying to set up a potential-tying 3. Brewer then finished off the Razorbacks` big win with a free throw. Brewer and Ferguson made consecutive 3s to start the second half but Florida righted itself and the lead went back and forth the rest of the way. With 12:01 to play, Modica was fouled as he attempted a 3. He converted all three shots for a 53-48 Arkansas lead. Florida was up 73-72 with 2:25 to play. Both teams went cold from there and Arkansas` Darian Townes tied it at 73 with a free throw with about 20 seconds left. Florida never even got a final shot off in regulation because Modica blocked Green`s shot with time winding down. It was Modica`s first blocked shot of the season. Arkansas plays host to Alabama on Tuesday at 8:05 p.m.
