Hogs Put Wraps on Off Week

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.(UA Sports Information) - The Arkansas football team practiced for just over an hour on Thursday afternoon as they wrapped up their off week in shells on the practice fields just south of Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. "We had a really good week of practice," Arkansas head coach Houston Nutt said. "I loved the fact that our energy was really high. They played their hearts out at Alabama, and you wouldnt have thought that after getting off the plane at 7 a.m. the previous week (following USC). Now we have to go even harder." The Hogs had a list of things they needed to accomplish during the off week and Nutt was happy with the way the team had progressed. "We worked hard on third-down situations," Nutt said. "We also spent some time working with Robert (Johnson) on his decision making with the rush coming at him. We tired to make everything as game-like as possible this week." Most of the Arkansas coaching staff was on the road recruiting on Thursday, leaving only Nutt, defensive coordinator Reggie Herring and running backs coach Danny Nutt to handle practice. "It was a little tougher working with the skeleton crew," Nutt said, "but we are getting by. Im glad we dont do it everyday." Nutt also expressed the idea that true freshman wide receiver Rod Colman might come out of redshirt. With Chris Baker still struggling to come back from a sprained knee, Colman would provide the Razorbacks with needed speed at wide out. "We looked hard today at Rod Colman," Nutt said. "Since we dont think we are going to have Chris Baker now, we need one more speed receiver. I hate to take the redshirt off him, but we gave him a lot of looks today. He may be one guy that can help us at wide receiver because of his speed, so we have to look at him real close." Arkansas will take Friday and Saturday off before returning to the practice field on Sunday afternoon. The Razorbacks and Indians are set for a 6 p.m. kickoff at War Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 8.
