As the world reacts to the death of singer Whitney Houston in California, the Beverly Hills Police Department has given a brief statement about the discovery of her body in a hotel room.

"When our officers arrived in the hotel room on the fourth floor, fire department and hotel security were already attempting resuscitation measures, but at 3:55 p.m. this afternoon, Whitney Houston was pronounced dead at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.  She has been positively identified by friends, family and co-workers that were with her at the hotel," said Mark Rosen, Public Information Officer with the Beverly Hills Police Department.

Rosen, who spoke to reporters early Saturday evening, also said that Houston's body was still at the hotel more than two hours after her death.

Houston, whose career included hits like "How Will I Know," "I Will Always Love You," and "The Greatest Love of All," was 48 years old.
