The "help wanted" sign is out at more businesses.

The department says there were three-point-35-million positions available in September.

That's up more than 20 percent from the year prior.

The number of workers who quit or were laid off increased in September, as well.

The total number of new hires in September also registered an uptick to four-point-25 million.
