At the Fair: Goat's Milk Soap

The Livestock Show is a very big part of the Arkansas State Fair, so you expect to see barns filled
with everything from cows and horses to pigs and sheep.
There's also a very big area set aside just for goats, specifically Boer Goats.
But what you might not expect to see is a vendor selling great-smelling products made from goat's
milk.
Such was the case on Friday afternoon in a stop at the Arts & Crafts Building.
Just to the right of the front door, among the display cases filled with blue ribbon winners, sits a
display table for the Arkansas Soap Company of Heber Springs.
The proprietor Kelli greets you with a big smile and interesting facts about products made from
goat's milk (which she highly recommends for your holiday baking because it's just like condensed milk). She sells soaps and lotions that many would agree smell just as good as any you'd find in a luxury spa.
Kelli is also quick to tell you all about her family's goat farm that makes it all possible.
It's a small operation with big dreams spelled out on the home page of the company's website (click here).
That's where Kelli writes about what their soap and lotion customers make possible for the family farm.
"When you buy our soap we are able to make upgrades to the goats' living quarters, buy feed and
medicine that they may need, and pay for the farm where they live," they say. "Our next goal is to
build a new milk room, purchase a new milk stand and buy some new milking equipment - we will still milk by hand, but some new stainless steel buckets will make life easier."
