Arkansas State Trooper Terral Harsson, 27, of Floral is being credited today with saving the life of
Robert Guise of Judsonia who was trapped inside the burning wreckage of a vehicle crash along Highway 67 near Beebe early Thursday morning .
Trooper Harsson was off-duty about 1:40 AM and traveling southbound along U.S. Highway 67 when he spotted the blaze from Guise`s burning pick-up truck in the northbound traffic lanes. The pick-up truck had collided with the rear of a northbound U.S. Mail transport truck. The impact of the two trucks apparently resulted in a fire inside the cabin of the pick-up truck with Guise trapped inside. According to a preliminary report, Trooper Harsson crossed the median and approached the crash scene where Glen St. John of Rosie, the driver of the transport truck was attempting to extinguish the fire. Guise was reported to be conscious and spoke to Harsson from inside the wreckage but could not open the truck doors. Trooper Harsson found what has been described as a "cable" in the bed of Guise`s pick-up truck and tied one end to the cable to the cabin door of the burning truck and attached the opposite end to his personal vehicle. Trooper Harsson, using his vehicle, was able to pull the door open wide enough for Guise to escape the flames. Guise was transported to the White County Medical Center at Searcy. Trooper Harsson joined the ranks of the Arkansas State Police on August 31, 2003.
