Yesterday, the Dow plummeted about 525 points in late trading before paring its losses to close down by 284 points at 11-125.
The steep selloff was fueled by rampant market fears of a double-dip global recession.
The S&P 500 tumbled 37 points Thursday to 11-30, while the Nasdaq lost 83 points to 24-56.
Materials and energy shares were hit the hardest among the companies in the S&P 500 index.
