Nervous Investors Await Opening Bell

By: Newsroom Solutions
Updated: September 23, 2011
Waves of uneasiness are rippling through Wall Street ahead of today's opening of the markets.

Yesterday, the Dow plummeted about 525 points in late trading before paring its losses to close down by 284 points at 11-125.

The steep selloff was fueled by rampant market fears of a double-dip global recession.

The S&P 500 tumbled 37 points Thursday to 11-30, while the Nasdaq lost 83 points to 24-56.

Materials and energy shares were hit the hardest among the companies in the S&P 500 index.
