Triple Tragedy Shakes North Little Rock High School

Updated: January 7, 2009
For North Little Rock High School Senior Anthony Watkins, the start of the school year was tough enough. The friends he called his "big brothers," Class of `04 members Byron Tolbert and Matthew Mitchell, had left for college. Watkins, a North Little Rock football player, felt like he had lost something. Never did Watkins think the loss would run this deep. Early Sunday morning, his two friends, along with fellow North Little Rock classmate Korey Thomas, were killed when their car ran off the road and slammed into a tree. The State Police report shows the teenagers were not wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident. "There are so many things that happened last year that were so fun," remembers Watkins. "That`s all I have to live by... all the good things that happened because we`ll never get to see them again."
