River Market to Expand Hours

Updated: January 7, 2009
You wont see partiers walking the streets of the River Market District with open containers of alcohol, but they will have some more time to help out the economy. The River Market is expanding its hours. Starting May 1st, it will be open Sundays from 10a.m. to 5 p.m. Those hours will continue through August 28th. This is not the first time the River Market has tried to keep business running. There were 2 other attempts. Each time not enough people showed up. Now those associated with the River Market say the Clinton Library is fueling enough tourism for additional business. "We are all excited about being open," said Rashid Jain with the River Market Grocery. "We`ll get a good business because all of the people knocking on the door on Sunday when we`re doing inventory." Not all vendors agree however. Some say they would rather stay at home with their families on the weekend. "For myself I don`t think it`s a great idea. We are small and independent shops and businesses. It`s difficult to maintain it 7 days a week," said Drew Holistic with Mille Fleur. Nevertheless, if things go well, some vendors say they hope additional businesses will open, including more gift shops and clothing stores.
