Tax Day Rush

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
With only a few more days left before tax day on April 15th, thousands of people are rushing to file before the deadline. At the H&R Block in Little Rock, all of the employees are working long hours trying to finish everyone`s paperwork. The store manager, Karen Brooks, says many of her clients are making the same mistakes. She says it`s important to make sure you`re not using old tax laws during your preparations. She also says people could be entitled to bigger refunds if they keep the paperwork for tax-deductible items, like the interest off a mortgage payment, prescription drugs, doctors visits, etc. Brooks also stresses it`s not too late to file, even if you don`t have your paperwork in order. She says all you need is your W-2 or last check stub, plus the information about all your dependents. She says while it is possible to file that way, it doesn`t ensure the biggest refund. All filings must be into the I.R.S. by midnight on April 15th. You can get an extension, but that doesn`t mean you can put off paying your taxes if you owe the government money. All taxes owed are due by midnight on Friday. If they`re late, there is a 10% per month late fee tacked on to the taxes owed.
