Many like to carve them in the fall or bake them into pies but a growing trend is apparently chunking them on catapults.

The relatively new hobby named Punkin' Chunkin' is now in its third year of competition at the Harvest and Herb Festival in Ada, Ohio. The catapults, or as they're properly called, "trebuchets," are built with one purpose in mind: to launch a pumpkin further than anybody else.

"It's just a lot of fun," says Chad Hays. "It's manly. I mean these are just big medieval trebuchets and just fun to throw things a long distance."

This year's winning team threw their pumpkins over the fence three times, with a longest throw of more than 550 feet.
