Schools Facilities Package Passes Senate

Updated: January 7, 2009
The Senate has overwhelmingly passed a bill that sets out rules for building and expanding schools in Arkansas. The proposals are actually four bills that lay out the details for how state and local officials will coordinate their work on school facilities. The package includes a new division at the Department of Education -- the "Division of Academic Facilities and Transportation." That division would have oversight for all school building projects statewide. State lawmakers will also get some oversight in the process. Every school district in the state will be required to submit a master facilities plan, laying out their visions for facilities over the next decade.
