Pot becoming more popular in Lonoke County

Updated: January 7, 2009
Lonoke County deputies are cracking down on the apparent resurgence of marijuana throughout the county. The Sheriff`s department says possession arrests of pot are up from last year and now account for 20 percent of the case file. The drug has become so popular --and plentiful-- that prices fell $60 an ounce from $100. Deputies have stepped up patrol efforts although they continue to rely on the community for tips. "When they smell certain things in the air or see certain things happen, they will make a phone call," said Sgt. Efrem Jones with the Lonoke County Sheriffs Department. The Sheriff`s department believes most of the marijuana is coming from outside the county.
